Title - Nanotechnology Research and Development - Alan Cassell
I am a scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. My current research interests lie at the interface of condensed matter physics, materials science and chemistry. One recent project has been investigating self-assembly at organic-inorganic interfaces and studying the electronic transport through molecules by scanning tunneling microscopy. Another project involves the synthesis of various types of inorganic nanowires by template directed sol-gel method and developing simple and efficient techniques for assembling the nanowires on devices for various applications. In both these projects my research has been directed towards overcoming the challenges in the ordering, assembly and manipulation of nanomaterials at the nanoscale and in understanding the fundamental aspects of electronic transport through these nanoscale systems. I am also involved in NASA mission oriented instrumentation projects. I obtained my Ph.D in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India and Masters in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India.
